Members of EAA Chapter 1710 were treated to an in-depth and engaging tour of Sonex Aircraft on the afternoon of June 24, led by Lead Designer Mark Schaible.
The tour provided a behind-the-scenes look at the innovative engineering and meticulous craftsmanship that define Sonex aircraft. Attendees gained valuable insight into the design philosophy, manufacturing process, and continuous improvements that have made Sonex a respected name in the experimental aviation community.
“The innovation and attention to detail truly highlight what makes Sonex aircraft exceptional,” said a chapter representative. “It was an outstanding opportunity for our members to connect with the design side of aviation and deepen their understanding of aircraft construction.”
One highlight of the visit was the opportunity to explore the new Sonex Highwing aircraft. Even EAA Chapter 1710’s President, standing 6 feet 5 inches tall and typically unable to comfortably fit in most aircraft, was able to sit comfortably inside the Highwing.
EAA Chapter 1710, based in Clintonville, WI, continues to grow as a vibrant hub for aviation enthusiasts, offering hands-on building projects, educational programs, and community events that inspire the next generation of aviators. They hold monthly gatherings on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.
