Dear Aunt Abby,
This is my first year as a freshman in high school, and I’m really nervous about making new friends. Everyone seems to know each other already. How can I meet new people without it being totally awkward?

Dear Nervous Freshman,
It’s completely normal to feel that way. Starting high school is a big change for everyone, and it takes time to find your place. The best way to meet new people is to get involved in things you genuinely enjoy. Join a club, try out for a sports team, or volunteer for a school event. When you’re doing something you love, you’ll naturally meet others with similar interests, which makes conversation so much easier. Remember, confidence comes from being yourself. Be open to talking to new people, smile in the hallways, and don’t be afraid to say hello first. You’ve got this!
