Members of EAA Chapter 1710 had the opportunity to hear firsthand accounts of military service, combat photography, and documenting history during a special presentation on Wednesday, August 19, at Clintonville Municipal Airport.
The chapter welcomed retired United States Air Force Reserve Master Sergeant Chris “Foghorn” Hibben, who shared stories and experiences from his remarkable career as a combat photographer.
Hibben traveled to 35 countries and all 50 states during his military career and was recognized as the 2019 Combat Photographer of the Year. His presentation provided chapter members with a unique look at the role of military photographers and the experiences behind the photographs that document military history.
Hibben explained that combat photographers do far more than take pictures. While deployed, they can also participate in ground operations alongside other military personnel, placing them directly in challenging and sometimes dangerous environments.
Before the transition to digital photography, Hibben captured approximately 20,000 still photographs throughout his career, preserving moments and stories through film.
“Chris gave our members a fascinating look into a career that combines photography, aviation, military service and storytelling,” said EAA Chapter 1710 President. “We are incredibly grateful for his service to our country and for taking the time to share these personal experiences with our chapter.”
The presentation is part of EAA Chapter 1710’s ongoing efforts to provide members and the community with educational opportunities that connect aviation with history, military service and real-world experiences.
