The Grand Chute Fire Department (GCFD) has successfully secured another five years of International Accredited Agency status, a prestigious designation awarded by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).
This achievement keeps GCFD in elite company; since first earning accreditation in 2021, the department remains one of only 11 in Wisconsin—and fewer than 340 globally—to hold this distinction.
The Path to Excellence
Maintaining this status is an exhaustive, five-year endeavor. The process requires a deep dive into data analysis, strategic planning, and community alignment. The GCFD utilizes this framework as a proactive roadmap to refine service delivery and prepare for future challenges.
The most recent reaccreditation involved several critical phases:
- Peer Validation: In December, a team of outside fire service professionals conducted an on-site visit to verify GCFD’s self-assessment against 250 rigorous professional standards.
- Continuous Growth: The visiting team provided 20 specific recommendations designed to help the department further evolve.
- Final Review: The process culminated last week when Chief Steve Denzien and his leadership team appeared before the CFAI Commission to discuss their findings and officially confirm their reaccreditation.
A Team Effort
Reflecting on the milestone, Fire Chief Steve Denzien emphasized the invisible effort behind the accolade.
“People see the end results of an accomplishment but frequently miss the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice that it takes to get to the end,” Denzien noted. “The passion, attention to detail, and support that comes from every member of this team can and does move mountains!”
The GCFD staff deserves high praise for their unwavering dedication to transparency, public accountability, and the pursuit of professional excellence.
