Election after election, sometimes they all seem to blend into showing up and casting a vote without realizing that some elections are truly different in purpose from the political elections that we tend to normally expect.
April first will be our annual spring election. While it occurs on April Fool’s Day, the election is a serious matter for the residents of Grand Chute. This is a non-partisan election for members of the Town Board and the Boards’ actions affects all residents. A non-partisan election provides the residents protection from any outside influences on matters that concern us as a Town; That is as long as each candidate funds their campaign only from themselves and their supporters.
Non-Partisan elections are different from elections with political party candidates. The primary benefit of a non-partisan election is the absence of political party influence and unlike a political election, the non-partisan election places the public good as its function. It prioritizes the public interest. The purpose is to prevent the influence from political party policies. Policies then represent the needs of the residents in our Town. Residents then vote on how they see the facts and Town needs without outside influence. Grand Chute has had nonpartisan elections where very significant outside funds were spent to benefit candidates for a Town Board seat.
The residents of Grand Chute have every right to expect that the candidates this spring respect the value of our non-partisan election and are funded by themselves and those who support them in our Town.
