I am finding more and more that our world is looking for answers. Well, not so much for answers as much as certainty. Well, not so much for certainty as assurance. However, the assurance they are looking for is with their own perspective. Best way to put it is that they need to be right. Their stability, their esteem is based on their level of rightness. Anything that challenges that rightness must be rejected immediately?
The problem is that the need for rightness goes completely against our humanness. Humans have a tendency for mistakes – lots of mistakes. One day I decided to be mistake free for a whole day. I was focused to slow down and be precise in my behavior and thought, but after my third failing, I decided I should get of bed! I hate being human!
So, what is our solution? Only one human didn’t fall short. He was born in an obscure town to young parents. He lived a brief life with the last three years focused on connecting people to something larger than themselves. It was not accepted by the leaders of His day, so they arrested Him and had Him killed. However, the best part of the story is what happened next.
The man died and was buried, but He wasn’t dead. Religions all over have sacred ground where their leaders are buried. We, as Christ followers, are different due to the fact that our tomb is empty. I stand on the truth that if the tomb is empty – our hearts can be full,
Every Easter I am reminded that my assurance (rightness) comes not from within me but from within the one who faced death and won, I don’t have to be right anymore, I just have to belong to Him.
