Friday Fish Fry
Anyone looking for a fish fry this Lenten season? St. Edward Parish, Mackville has delicious fish fries!
About 45-50 years ago, St. Edward started serving pan fried walleye on Friday night at the Mackville Tractor Pull. The fish fries continued being served monthly, serving about 150 – 200 people. As the fish fries became more popular, it was decided to just serve them during the season of Lent. With the assistance of Roman Salm, Jr, owner of the former Darboy Club, he guided us with equipment, recipes, suppliers and how to marinate the fish. In addition to walleye, we expanded the menu to perch, haddock, shrimp, grill cheese and mac n cheese, keeping the prices reasonable so the entire family can attend.
When Fr. Charlie Brooks was our pastor, he declared St. Edward “The World’s Greatest Fish Fry” in which we still use in our advertising/marketing today. The last couple years, we normally served between 550 – 650 people every week, that includes take-outs and in-house seating. It takes a village to make these fish fries a success and we are truly blessed to have 60 – 70 wonderful volunteers per fish fry. The profits made from these fish fries goes directly to support St. Edward School and the religious education program.
