For more than a century, Appleton Marble & Granite Works has been helping families create lasting tributes to their loved ones. Established in 1887, this locally owned business has built a reputation for nationally recognized, award-winning artistry, quality craftsmanship, and compassionate service. Whether you’re needing a memorial for someone you’ve recently lost, or planning ahead to ease the burden on your family, Appleton Marble & Granite has been the Fox Cities’ first choice for generations.
Founded 138 years ago by George Wolf, the company merged with August Knuppel’s competing marble and granite business in 1916, and since then, Appleton Marble & Granite has remained in the Knuppel family for four generations. Today, father and son Anthony Knuppel Sr. and Jr. continue the tradition, bringing decades of expertise to the cemetery monument industry. From simple grave markers to intricate custom memorials, their dedicated team takes pride in creating meaningful tributes that stand the test of time.
One of the most notable features of their showroom—located at 1708 E Wisconsin Ave—is the custom hand-etched artwork. Local artists Scott Lesperance and Tom Heinritz meticulously transform customer’s photos into pencil sketches and then into permanent, breathtaking engravings, ensuring each piece becomes a lasting legacy in cemeteries across the state.
