On Thursday, May 29, Casa Hispana hosted its Scholarship Gala, A Night of Giving, at Poplar Hall. The vibrant event hosted a sit-down dinner and Mexican ice cream catered from the local Chicken Grill in Menasha. A silent auction was held, all with handcrafted baskets full of goodies from local businesses and vendors. Scholarships were handed out to twelve recipients and the night was concluded with a beautiful display of talent and passion, delivered by the one and only Fox Valley Latin Dancers.
Casa Hispana is a non-profit organization that advocates for and empowers the Hispanic/Latinx community in our beloved Fox Valley. Through advancing education, awareness, and celebrating the diverse culture within the Hispanic/Latinx community, Casa Hispana is a powerhouse in the Fox Valley.
Casa Hispana began to cultivate its roots back in 1992 when members of the Appleton Regional Council of the United Migrant Opportunities Services (UMOS) created a scholarship program. Though the program began with the goal of helping the youth of Hispanic/Latinx families in the area, it has further grown. Since its creation, Casa Hispana has developed a bilingual resource center, a net of community referrals for legal assistance, employment opportunities and more. Needless to say- this multi-reaching community is determined to offer support and education to all those in need and a powerhouse in the Fox Valley.
The Casa Hispana Scholarship Program provides financial support to Hispanic/Latinx students from Outagamie, Calumet, and Winnebago counties on their road to higher education. This night was all thanks to their trusted Board of Directors and Executive Director, Dr. Carlos Salazar. The recipients were called up one by one to the Poplar Hall stage and given a scholarship certificate. Raiden Montero delivered a speech touching on the importance of education and how he did not like to deliver speeches.
