The Heart and Honesty Behind Modern Touch Dentistry
NATASHA WINKLER
In an era where medical care can feel increasingly corporate, stepping into a local dental office and finding raw authenticity is a breath of fresh air. Since 2005, Dr. Jolanta Pajek of Modern Touch Dentistry has offered the Grand Chute and Fox Cities communities exactly that: a blend of cutting-edge dentistry, uncompromising honesty in diagnosis and treatment plans and personalized approach to every patient to make that treatment possible.
For Dr. Pajek, “Modern Touch” is a nod to her state-of-the-art office, but its true meaning lies in her philosophy of deep emotional investment, absolute integrity, and her goal of providing the best care for her patients.
A Global Perspective in Grand Chute
Dr. Pajek’ s road to Grand Chute was anything but typical.
Her journey began in Poland, where she set her sights on becoming a surgeon. “I didn’t want to be a dentist,” she admits, remembering her childhood dental fear. However, during her first year, she was fascinated by the blend of science, artistry, and precise anatomy of teeth. And it was love at first sight that guided her through her dental journey.
In 1988, Dr. Pajek left communist Poland. She says – “communists and myself, we had a completely different vision for my life – so we had to agree to disagree and I left for a volunteer position at Bristol Dental Hospital in England.” After assisting in a dental group in London (with dentists from South Africa and Australia, Ireland) for two years, she immigrated to Canada, graduating from dental school in Toronto. Ultimately, after board exams in Canada and the U.S. she moved to Wisconsin, where she began Modern Touch Dentistry from scratch in 2005. She has practiced dentistry across four countries—Poland, England, Canada, and the United States—amassing an eclectic reservoir of clinical wisdom.
The Value of Straight Talk
This rich, global history fuels the unique value Dr. Pajek brings to her patients. Operating a private, fee-for-service office, she answers only to her patients rather than corporate equity boards and insurance conglomerates. “I don’t like the set up in corporate dentistry,” she says directly. “Here we have a patient and a dentist and our small dedicated team and our mutual goal is to help our patient achieve better dental health, better smile and better quality of life.
In today’s insurance-dominated landscape, Dr. Pajek explains with transparent clarity that typical maximums that insurance pays per year – usually between $1,000-1,500 have barely changed since 1960, making insurance function more like a restricted discount card or a coupon than true coverage. Refusing to compromise quality and choosing to have a dental office where ‘everybody knows your name’, she remains out-of-network. (It means she accepts all insurances except Badger Care and Medicaid and patients get reimbursed based on their insurance contract.)
To make care accessible, Modern Touch Dentistry has special discount plans for its loyal members. Smile Plus Plan and Loyalty Perks programs where patients can receive a 15% to 20% discount on treatments without caps or limitations.
This straightforward integrity extends to her treatment planning. Dr. Pajek does not sugarcoat diagnoses or engage in passive “watching” of active decay. “I’ve seen that movie a million times. I know how it ends- usually the tooth dies and it needs root canal treatment and a crown or extraction” she notes. But she also understands anxiety and a myriad of different life situations that led her patients to seek help. She collaborates closely with patients to find realistic paths forward.
“You have to be honest with me so we can design a treatment plan that is realistic for you and help you regain dental health.”
Emotional Investment and True Patient Comfort
What sets Dr. Pajek apart is profound empathy rooted in her own history as an anxious patient. Having completed a sedation course over two decades ago, she is uniquely attuned to dental fear. “I absolutely understand what they’re going through,” she says. “I don’t have to be fake. I’ve been there.”
Building her office in 2005 from an empty white box, she designed a cozy space to take her time with patients. Instead of seeing fifty patients a day in a corporate rush, she limits her schedule to around ten, curating every detail—massage and heated chairs, warm blankets, headsets, and individual TVs—for patient ease.
This deep care results in life-changing moments. Dr. Pajek describes the sheer emotion of performing full-mouth reconstructions. “They get their new smile and they wake up from sedation and they cry tears of happiness and we cry with them.” she shares, getting visibly emotional. We can help change patients’ lives- either by making them healthier or more self-assured by giving them a beautiful smile.
Looking to the future, she is thrilled by the vibrant growth of the Fox Cities. There is even a family succession plan in the works; her nephew, Jacob, is currently in dental school, hoping to one day step into the practice she poured her soul into building.
For Grand Chute residents, Modern Touch Dentistry is more than a dental clinic—it is a testament to the power of resilience, world-class expertise, and raw, authentic care. Dr. Pajek’s “modern touch” is a beautiful reminder that the most advanced tool in any healthcare office is still a doctor who truly cares.
