Well here we are, a year later since we started sharing One Fan’s Opinion. We are back to the NFL Draft! As we all know, last year, little old Green Bay Wisconsin played host to the draft! Green Bay and the state of Wisconsin proved itself worthy of hosting with a three day event that drew rave reviews from spectators, the media, and the league! This year, its Pittsburgh’s turn to host the party!
Last summer, the Packers made a blockbuster trade in acquiring defensive pass rusher Micah Parsons from the Cowboys. In exchange, the Packers dealt their 2026 and 2027 first round draft picks to the Cowboys. Despite Parsons being lost to a season ending injury late last season, the deal still looks good! Parsons brought a level of excitement and performance on the defensive line that arguably has not been felt since the days of Reggie White. Assuming Parsons returns to pre-injury form, the Packers are a better team having made the move!
The downside going into the 2026(and 2027) draft is the Packers not having a first round pick. Admittedly, I am a junkie who is willing to sift through 3-4 hours of player selections on the first night of the draft in excited anticipation of the Packers first round pick! Thus, this year, its been tough to get as fired up and studied up on the potential first round picks.
So, without a 1st round pick this year, what is there to be intrigued about for rounds 2-7? Here are current and former Packers NOT drafted in the 1st round! Tucker Kraft – 4th round pick! Christian Watson – 2nd round pick! Aaron Jones – 5th round pick! Davante Adams – 2nd round pick! David Bakhtiari – 4th round pick! Randall Cobb- 2nd round pick! Jordy Nelson- 2nd round pick! Oh, and here is one more of note! Bart Starr was picked in the 17th round of the draft!
The point is this. The first round of the draft is where the most excitement lies. But, many, many great Packers come out of later rounds in the annual draft! This article is being written in the week leading up to the draft. Let’s all meet back at the water cooler in a few weeks and compare notes on how the Packers did in rounds 2-7! I still can’t wait!
That’s this One Fan’s Opinion! Go Pack Go!
